How We Work

Our Installation Process

Every TrueStone Tile project follows a proven, detail-driven process — from the first site visit to the final sealed finish.

1
Step One

Consultation & Project Planning

Every project begins with a thorough on-site consultation. We assess the space, discuss your design goals, review tile selections, and take precise measurements. We walk you through material options, layout patterns, and realistic timelines so there are no surprises — just a clear plan built around your vision.

Step Two

Surface Preparation & Substrate Work

A flawless tile installation starts well below the surface. We remove existing flooring or wall coverings, inspect subfloors and wall assemblies for structural integrity, and address any moisture issues before a single tile is set. Uneven surfaces are corrected with leveling compound, and backer board or cement board is installed where needed to provide a stable, tile-ready foundation.

Step Three

Waterproofing & Protection

In wet areas like showers, tub surrounds, and bathroom floors, waterproofing is non-negotiable. We apply industry-trusted membrane systems — including Schluter® and Wedi® — to create a fully watertight barrier behind and beneath the tile. This critical step prevents water intrusion, mold growth, and long-term structural damage, and it is one of the most important things that separates a professional installation from a shortcut job.

Step Four

Layout Planning & Dry Fit

Before any adhesive is mixed, we plan the tile layout in full. We establish reference lines from the center of the space outward, ensuring symmetry and balanced cuts at the perimeter. Tiles are dry-fit along both axes so we can fine-tune the pattern, adjust grout joint spacing, and identify any cuts needed around obstacles like drains, fixtures, or transitions. This step eliminates guesswork and sets the stage for a clean, intentional result.

Step Five

Tile Setting & Adhesive Application

With the layout confirmed, we mix and apply premium thinset mortar using a notched trowel at the correct angle to ensure full, even coverage on the back of every tile. Each tile is pressed and set with a slight twisting motion for maximum bond strength. Tile spacers maintain consistent grout joints throughout, and a tile leveling system is used on large-format tiles to prevent lippage and ensure a perfectly flat finished plane. Precise cuts are made with a wet saw for clean, professional edges at every border and obstacle.

Step Six

Grouting, Sealing & Final Inspection

Once the thinset has fully cured, spacers are removed and grout is carefully worked into every joint using a float, then wiped clean in stages for a sharp, consistent finish. We use premium sanded or unsanded grout matched to your design, and apply grout sealer to protect against staining and moisture penetration. Before we consider a job complete, we conduct a thorough final walkthrough — checking for any hollow spots, uneven tiles, grout inconsistencies, or touch-ups needed. We do not leave until the work meets our standard.
